Kris was once an army soldier, skilled in hand-to-hand combat. He left when he began to disagree with the Central Government's methods. Because of his training in the army, Kris has a lot of experience with fighting and warfare. Despite his large, bulky physical experience, Kris has a sense of humor and likes to crack jokes every once in a while. Timmy likes to make fun of Kris because Timmy demolishes Kris when they play FPS games.
There is a significance in the tattoo he wears on the left side of his head. He received it following his departure from the army in remembrance and respect for his comrade and friend, Alexander Dimaano. Alexander was an idealist and believed in what has been referenced in Chinese history as the "Great Unity 大同." It refers to "a utopian vision of the world in which everyone and everything is at peace." He aspired to play the role in helping bring about this vision, and he thought that every one of them had a role to play as well. Alexander was inspiring, full of energy and determination. However, many of Alexander's moral beliefs contradicted that of the orders that many of them had to carry out by their superiors.
Things got strange when select soldiers were selected by commanding officers for "special training." Stranger still was what happened to them afterwards. One of these soldiers was Alexander. The "special training" included experimental tests using Devil's Coal from Dr. Volsef's Devil's Obsidian project. Alexander refused to tell Kris about what they did to him, but Kris noticed his personality change - the fire had disappeared from Alexander's eyes.
It was his death that finally prompted Kris to leave the army.
